Lessons from the sea Part 4: Footprints in the Sand

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19

Footprints in the sand

We have come to the end of another year,
and what a year it has been. For some there were victories, successes, accomplishments, and the like. For others 2022 left in its wake grief, regrets, unfulfilled dreams, betrayals, trauma and countless other footprints that made deep impressions on the sands of their souls.

New Beginning

A new year promises new beginnings. Your new beginning may be characterised by any or all of the following:
  • Without a loved one
  • Embracing dreams
  • Charting paths
  • Redirecting focus
The turning of the calendar is like the curling of a wave over footprints

The curling of a wave over footprints

A new slate is before you
Acknowledge God before stepping out and He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:6). God's grace can be compared to the waves which obliterate prints and provide alternative, fresh, or new paths to pursue. Trust him and live by faith as you walk into 2023.

Obliterating Prints

As we looked at the waves obliterating the prints, I said to Le Roy, what do you think of when you see these footprints? His perspective was deep.
"I think of how soon physical footprints may be washed away". Le Roy had lost his wife Yvette, just three months prior. They had been married for 36 years. They had both been 22 years or younger when they got married. He had lived with her longer than he had lived as a single. Wistfully he continued "Imprints if left positively (or negatively) on a life will last forever."

Memories last forever

On this new leg of your journey remember God promises to give to those who mourn beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
Isaiah 61:3.

Step into your new beginning with God at your side.
